I'm Sasha, the person behind the lens at From Stardust. For as long as I could remember, I've always had the urge to capture the beauty around me. On a solo trip to Europe in 2007 I discovered the medium of photography and fell in love. I still remember wandering around in an artsy camera shop in Vienna, Austria where I bought my first Holga. I had so much fun taking roll after roll of photos using that unassuming plastic camera. The pictures turned out fuzzy, full of light leaks and unexpected compositions, but they perfectly embodied my fun and spontaneous trip.
Since then I've upgraded my equipment and take both film and digital photos depending on the occasion. My motivation for taking photos still remains the same: to find the beauty in the ordinary and capture both the big and small moments in life in an unique way.
I'm not taking photos, I enjoy browsing antique stores and reading a
book by a sunny window. My favorite meal is breakfast and my happy
place is on a trail surrounded by fragrant Ponderosas in the Sierra
My approach to photography is inspired by my love for film: it's
less about perfection and more about capturing genuine moments artfully
and spontaneously. I love any opportunity to play with light and
perspective to create unique photos that are still natural. For each
session, I will make sure to get a couple of "Christmas card" shots of
everyone looking at the camera and looking generally happy to be there
(I'm looking at you, babies and kids), but what I like to focus on are
candid captures where your personality really shines through.
If you feel awkward in front of a camera and don't know how to pose, I can totally relate and understand, so my goal is to make sure you look relaxed and natural in your photos. l will provide ideas and direction as needed so that you don't have to worry about posing and just be yourselves. Showed up at the photo shoot with your kite? Sure, let's roll with that! Your kid brought his favorite Hulk action figure? Let's make sure to get a detail of that. Ultimately, it's you and all your quirks that make these photos special and my job is just to make sure you look good.
